This article provides a preview of everything you need to know about the upcoming WordCamp Europe 2024 event, what we’re most looking forward to, and how to prepare.

The WordPress community’s annual WordCamp Europe event is taking place next week, between June 13 and June 15, in beautiful Torino, Italy.

WordCamp Europe is a celebration of all the talented, hard-working WordPress community members and this amazing open-source project.

WordCamp Europe

If this is your first time at a WordCamp, the conference can be overwhelming at first, there are so many people and with over 40 sessions across three days so much to see and do.

We find the hallway track, networking and talking with agency and product owners, speakers and friends we have met over the years the most fun. From coffee breaks to the after party, there are plenty of chances to connect and chat with fellow WordPress lovers.

“From my experience, the WordPress community is extremely friendly, and if you are on your own, approaching people to say hello can result in very interesting conversations.”

If last year’s event in Athens is anything to go on, then we’re all set to have a wonderful time in Italy. There were plenty of great presentations and sessions last year, in stunning surroundings, as well as lovely food and lots of after-parties each evening.

A personal highlight for Kanoppi was Louise’s talk on the importance of digital sustainability and technology’s impact on the environment.

We were also fortunate enough to successfully pitch to Emilia Capital, and receive investment for Kanoppi, which launched us on our journey.

This year at WordCamp Europe 2024, we’re most looking forward to…

Sustainable Open Source is the Future
The keynote by Joost and Juliette and aligns with our heart and values of sustainability and open-source.

Practical Techniques for Sustainable Web Development with WordPress
We will be very interested in this talk about how to design and build sustainable websites.

These product talks will also be very useful for us at Kanoppi…

The Art of Product
We expect to be making lots of notes on the secrets of successful product development and management for WordPress.

We’re also excited to see…

If this is your first time attending WordCamp Europe, we’d recommend you prepare by…

  • Visit the official WordCamp Europe 2024 website to familiarize yourself with the schedule, speakers, and sessions.
  • Prioritise the sessions you want to attend and create a personal schedule.
  • Follow relevant hashtags (e.g., #WCEU) to connect with other attendees.
  • Network and prepare a brief introduction about yourself and your work to share when chatting with people.
  • Bring business cards or have your LinkedIn profile ready to share.
  • Think about questions you might want to ask speakers, sponsors and other attendees. This can help you get more out of sessions and networking opportunities.

And don’t forget to pack…

  • Comfortable clothing and shoes, as you’ll likely be on your feet a lot.
  • A notebook and pen or a digital device for taking notes.
  • Chargers for your devices and possibly a power bank.
  • Snacks and a water bottle to stay energized and hydrated throughout the day.
  • But do leave space in your suitcase for all the swag you will be taking home!

And of course there is the after-party on Saturday night!
